Iberian Society of Ecology
For the community of Ecologists of our country, it is a pride to inform you of the upcoming celebration of the Founding Congress of the Iberian Society of Ecology. This scientific meeting will be the "kick-off" of the new SIBECOL, a society promoted by the Boards of Directors of different Spanish and Portuguese scientific associations, which brings together scientists from the different fields of study of ecology and the environment; terrestrial, marine and inland waters, in a single large-scale society.
The SIBECOL creation not only responds to the need to provide a common forum for the transfer of knowledge among professionals and researchers dedicated to ecology but also to the need to act as a single interlocutor before society and public administrations, regarding the management of natural spaces and care for the environment. Coinciding with the centenary of the birth of Ramón Margalef, considered a pioneer and "father" of ecology in Spain in the 60s, this congress will be held in February next year 2019, at the University of Barcelona (UB), where the distinguished ecologist carried out his teaching and research work.
This congress has been promoted by the Spanish Association of Terrestrial Ecology (AEET), the Iberian Association of Limnology (AIL), the Spanish Society of Ethology and Evolutionary Ecology (SEEEE) and the Sociedade Portuguesa de Ecologia (SPECO), and has the support of a significant representation of the group of marine ecologists of the Iberian Peninsula. The congress will be held in conjunction with the XIV edition of the National Meeting of the AEET.
