Andrea García Bravo, awardee of the 2019 ASLO Lindeman Award

Tuesday 18 th December 2018

Congrats to our SIBECOL board member Andrea García Bravo for receiving the ASLO Raymond L. Lindeman Award! She is the first Spanish recipient of this award, which each year honors a young scientist for an outstanding paper in aquatic sciences. The awarded study, published last year in Nature Communications, is entitled “Molecular composition of organic matter controls methylmercury formation in boreal lakes”, and derives from her extensive work at Uppsala University (Sweden) on mercury biogeochemistry in aquatic systems. Dr. García Bravo and collaborators demonstrate for the first time the relevant role of organic matter composition on mercury methylation rates in boreal lakes through its influence on bacterial activity.

Dr. Andrea García Bravo is currently a researcher at the Institute of Marine Sciences (ICM-CSIC) in Barcelona, where she is looking for genes involved in mercury processing in the ocean.

Congratulations again, Andrea!!
